About Lansing Area Homeschool Academy (LAHA)

Lansing Area Homeschool Academy History

Lansing Area Homeschool Academy (LAHA) is an educational opportunity for mid-Michigan homeschoolers, offering diverse classes one day a week (Wednesdays) for grades K-8. With a mission to serve mid-Michigan homeschool families, our classes are taught from a Biblical worldview and provide academic excellence while our program offers social opportunities for homeschoolers in Lansing.

The Academy has been blessed to be able to tap into the rich history previously laid in the Lansing area for homeschool families through the efforts fellow homeschoolers and community leaders who prayerfully led the charge for homeschooling rights in Michigan. As a result of their immense efforts, Jeff and Wanda Burdick founded a homeschool program called Teenworks in 1984. Teenworks provided qualified, godly instructors who reinforced Biblical character in classes, training, and testing. After 30 years of service to mid-Michigan homeschooling families and through God's direction, Teenworks closed in 2014.

But God continued to have a plan for Lansing homeschoolers, and with the blessing of the Burdicks, a team of committed former Teenworks parents came together to carry the torch, taking the principles of Teenworks and decades of experience forward into what is now Lansing Area Homeschool Academy (LAHA). This parent-led board is passionate about educating from a Biblical worldview with Christ-centered discipleship and academic excellence will remain our primary goal for generations to come.

It is this rich history and decades of prayer and commitment that Lansing Area Homeschool Academy families continue to  be blessed with to this day.
